Wedding Destinations: St. Maarten
Description of St. Maarten
Visitors can spend weeks enjoying the water sports, golf, tennis,
gambling casinos and shopping in St. Maarten. It is well known for
being the smallest island in the world that is divided between two
sovereign nations: half is Dutch and half is French.
The Dutch side is more Americanized than the French side. Condominium
developments, big resorts, and shopping areas take up a good par
to fht landscape. Beaches on the Dutch side are as fabulous as on
the French side.
The French side has much of the flavor and ambiance found on other
French islands in the Caribbean. Tourists will notice the difference
in style especially if they din out or accidentally happen upon
a “clothing optional” beach. Menus are in French and
English and most residents speak both languages.
Language: Dutch, French, English, Papiamentu and
Spanish
Government: member of the Netherlands Antilles
Religion: Protestant
Currency: Netherlands Antilles guilder; US dollars
widely accepted.
