Wedding Destinations: St. Lucia
Description of St. Lucia
The beauty of this island invites comparisons to Tahiti and Fiji.
The two Pitons, twin peaks of dormant volcanoes, rise over 2,000
feet above the sea. Interior mountains are covered by forest, surrounded
by banana plantations and ringed by coastal fishing villages.
Its northern beaches and resorts are the equal to those on other
islands for beauty and variety. The scenery from the south side
of the island compares to no other Caribbean island. Dark volcanic
sands provide unusual seascapes.
The majority of the larger resort-style hotels and the best beaches
are located near and north of Castries. Hotels in the south end
are distinctively located in rain forest, high above coves or right
under the Pitons. The sand beaches are volcanic in nature and gray
in color. Roads through the Pitons and along the coasts can be treacherous,
however many clients might fare better on jeep tours or catamaran
trips along the coast.
